Levelland business brokers and M&A advisors

For a Levelland owner weighing whether to sell a business built on the South Plains, MDR & Associates will serve as your M&A advisor and represent only you. Levelland is the Hockley County seat, 30 miles west of Lubbock where State Highway 114 and U.S. 385 cross, and our advisors come to you, be it at your company or wherever the conversation stays private.

Cotton, oil and a college on the Llano Estacado

Charles W. Post named the town Hockley City in 1912; the flat ground later gave it its current name. It became the county seat when Hockley County organized in 1921, and Santa Fe Railroad service started in July 1925. The 1950s oil boom brought a refinery and a gas plant, and South Plains College, a two-year community college, opened in 1958.

Cotton farming and petroleum production remain the major industries. The 2020 census counted 12,652 people, and Levelland is the principal city of a micropolitan area covering all of Hockley County, part of the larger Lubbock–Levelland combined statistical area. For an owner, that means an economy tied to two commodities, with Lubbock's bigger market 30 miles away.

When revenue follows cotton and crude

Buyers know that companies serving farms and oilfields have good years and lean ones. What they want to see is the whole cycle: several years of revenue and margins, how the company held up in a weak season, and how much of the work comes from repeat customers. We recast your financials to strip out one-time costs and owner expenses, so a buyer sees real earning power across the swings rather than one strong or weak year.

If your company distributes parts, supplies or equipment, our distribution page shows how buyers judge inventory, supplier terms and customer lists.

How the engagement works

Nothing is owed up front. We begin with a private conversation and a look at three years of books, then give you an opinion of value framed as a low and a high number. If we agree to go ahead, you sign an engagement letter that sets the success fee, payable only if the company sells. We prepare the marketing package and HD video, contact qualified buyers from our own database, and press for competing letters of intent, and every buyer negotiates directly with one of the firm's principals. For other South Plains and Panhandle towns, see the West & North Texas region page.

Questions owners in Levelland ask

Can I sell my Levelland company after a weak cotton or oil year?

Yes, though timing matters. Buyers look at several years, not one, so a dip surrounded by solid results rarely sinks a sale. We show the full record and explain what caused the weak year. If a rebound is close, we may suggest waiting until the numbers show it.

Are there buyers for a company 30 miles outside Lubbock?

There are. Buyers of profitable companies look across Texas, and many are comfortable with smaller markets when earnings are steady and the team is solid. The first calls go to qualified buyers we already know, and each of them signs a confidentiality agreement before learning where you are.
