Post business brokers and M&A advisors
Post was founded by a manufacturer, the cereal maker C. W. Post, and it still rewards owners who build something a buyer can take over. If you own a profitable company in this Garza County seat and want to sell, MDR & Associates can serve as your M&A advisor, and our advisors will drive out to Garza County for the first conversation, held wherever you choose.
A planned town with a cotton mill at its center
C. W. Post bought about 200,000 acres of ranchland and founded the town in 1907, at what is now the crossroads of U.S. Routes 84 and 380. Postex Cotton Mills started production in 1913, the Santa Fe Railway had arrived three years earlier, and the town incorporated in 1914. Oilfield services, farming and ranching have also been part of the local economy. The 2020 census counted 4,790 residents.
The mill's own history is a small lesson in selling a company. Burlington Industries bought Postex in 1955, and by 1973 the operation employed 450 people. A larger company paid for a working plant, a trained workforce and steady output, which is still what buyers pay for today.

Selling in a town where everybody knows the owner
In a town the size of Post, the owner of a good company often knows every employee and most customers by name. That closeness is an asset, but buyers worry about it too: if the relationships live in your head, what happens after you leave? We help you show who else can answer the phone, run a crew or keep the books, and how many months you would give a new owner to learn the ropes.
The buyer is rarely local. For a company that serves oil operators, farms or ranches in this part of the state, likely buyers include larger Texas operators, private equity groups and individuals ready to move for the right business. Before anything is advertised, we work through the qualified buyers we already know. Every one of them sees a blind profile, signs a confidentiality agreement and shows proof of funds before learning who you are.
No sale means no fee; our fees page explains how the success fee works. For shops and plants, see how we present manufacturing businesses, and for the wider market, our West & North Texas page.

Questions owners in Post ask
Is a company in a town of under 5,000 people too small a market for serious buyers?
Not if it earns a real profit. Buyers look at earnings, customers and staff before geography. Our work covers companies with annual revenue from $3 million up to $100 million, and within that band a well-run Garza County business competes with city businesses for the same buyers.
Can I stay involved after I sell my Post business?
Many owners do, for a set period. Buyers often ask the seller to stay several months to a year to introduce customers and train a successor, and that role is written into the purchase agreement. We negotiate its length, your pay and your duties along with the price, so the handover works on terms you accept.
