Seminole business brokers and M&A advisors

Seminole is the Gaines County seat, a crossroads where highways run to Lamesa, Andrews, Denver City, Seagraves and across the state line to Hobbs, New Mexico. If you own a company here and are wondering who could buy it, MDR & Associates can take on the sale as your M&A advisor, representing you alone, and our advisors come to Seminole to meet you in person.

A 1906 crossroads town near the New Mexico line

Seminole began in 1906, when W. B. Austin and his wife, Emma, moved their general store to the site. Seminole National Bank opened the same year and First State Bank followed in 1907, so commerce was here from the start. The 2020 census counted 6,988 residents with a median age of 32.4, and nearly three in ten were under 18.

Seminole and Gaines County are also home to a large community of Low German Mennonites who came to West Texas in the 1980s, and in 2016 about 6,000 people in the area spoke Plautdietsch. For an owner, it is one more sign of a close-knit place where reputation and relationships carry real weight.

When the likely buyer is not from Seminole

With fewer than 7,000 residents in town, the best buyer is often someone who does not live here yet: a larger company elsewhere in West Texas or New Mexico that wants a foothold in Gaines County, a private equity group, or an individual willing to relocate for a solid business. Local interest is welcome, but a sale that depends on it alone rarely reaches full value.

Reaching outside buyers without tipping off the town takes a process. We begin with buyers already qualified in our own database. Each one sees a profile that leaves out your name and location details. Only after signing a nondisclosure agreement and completing a financial profile does a buyer get the full package and learn who you are. Each stage is laid out on our sell your business page.

Before any of that, it is worth knowing where you stand. Our free online valuation snapshot returns a rough range in minutes, and a first meeting with us, also free, turns three years of financials into an opinion of value. Our West & North Texas page shows how far we travel for owners in this part of the state.

Questions owners in Seminole ask

Will a buyer from outside Gaines County understand how business works in Seminole?

The good ones will want to learn, and part of our job is to teach them. We explain your customer relationships, the community you serve and the employees who make it work day to day. A buyer who understands why customers stay is a buyer willing to pay for that loyalty.

Should I tell my key employees in Seminole before I start the sale?

Usually not at the very start. Most owners bring in one or two trusted managers once a serious buyer appears, because buyers will want to meet them. We help you decide the timing and can suggest ways to keep key people, such as a stay bonus paid at closing.
