Brownfield business brokers and M&A advisors
If you plan to sell a business in Brownfield, or simply want to learn what it is worth, call on MDR & Associates, a sell-side firm that works for owners of Texas companies. The Terry County seat stands where U.S. highways 62, 82, 380 and 385 meet, 39 miles southwest of Lubbock, and cotton has long been the backbone of its economy.
Cotton, oil and four U.S. highways on the South Plains
Town promoters W.G. Hardin and A.F. Small founded Brownfield in 1903, and it won the county seat on June 28, 1904. The town sits at 3,310 feet on the Llano Estacado, known for red soil that glows at sunrise and sunset. Oil wells came online in 1941 and broadened the economy, though production has since dropped from its earlier levels. Peanuts, grapes and wine now share the fields with cotton, and the Jim Rudd Unit state prison opened here in 1995. The card game Skip-Bo went into production in Brownfield in 1967.
With 8,936 people and five highways, Brownfield is a trade center for the farms around it. In a town like this, the private companies that reach our size range are often the ones selling equipment, seed, fuel, parts and supplies, hauling crops, or serving growers and oil operators across the South Plains.

How buyers look at a farm-economy company
Buyers of agricultural supply and service companies ask how revenue moved through wet years and dry ones, how much inventory the business carries and how quickly it turns, and whether key customers buy on account. They also want to know that sales relationships will survive a change of owner. Our experience with Texas distribution and wholesale companies helps us put those answers in a form buyers and their lenders accept.
Seasonality is normal here, and it is not a reason for a lower price when it is explained well. A recast of three years of financials shows normal earnings, and a business valuation sets a realistic range before any buyer is contacted.

Questions owners in Brownfield ask
My Brownfield company has a big season and a slow one. Does that lower its value?
Not if the pattern is steady and explained. Buyers expect farm-economy companies to be seasonal. What they look for is consistent annual earnings, working capital that matches the cycle and good inventory control. We show those figures across several years so a buyer sees the pattern, not just a slow quarter.
Do buyers still care about oil work in Terry County if production has dropped?
They care about the revenue you have and whether it will continue. If oil work is a shrinking share of your business, we show what replaced it and how margins held. A company that adjusted as production changed demonstrates exactly the management a buyer wants to keep.
