Tyler business brokers and M&A advisors
For Tyler owners, MDR & Associates is an M&A advisor retained by sellers alone: we get the company ready, bring buyers to it and lead the negotiation. Tyler is the seat of Smith County and the principal city of a metro area of 233,479 people, about 100 miles east of Dallas. We are headquartered in Frisco and travel to you.
Hospitals, food plants and HVAC: who employs Tyler
Tyler had 105,995 residents at the 2020 census. Healthcare is the largest employer group by far: Christus Trinity Mother Frances Health System employs about 5,000 people and UT Health East Texas about 3,500, with the UT Tyler Health Science Center adding 1,450. Food production is strong too, with Sanderson Farms at 1,750 and John Soules Foods at 1,000, while Brookshire Grocery Company and a Target distribution center each keep large workforces in the city.
Manufacturing runs through the list as well. Trane Technologies employs about 1,450, and Tyler Pipe, Delek Refining, PCSFerguson, DYNAenergetics and Vesuvius USA all operate here. The city's history explains part of that mix: an early economy of farming, logging, milling and metalworking, railroads in the 1870s, fruit orchards, and then roses. By the 1930s most of the rose supply in the United States came from around Tyler. Oil and gas are part of the economy too, and the University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler Junior College and Texas College keep a steady flow of graduates.

What makes a Tyler company easier to sell
Interstate 20 runs along the north edge, U.S. 69 and State Highway 64 cross the city, and Loop 323 circles it. Longview is about 38 miles away and Shreveport about 98, so a company based here can reach well beyond Smith County. A home services company with maintenance agreements across the area, or a supplier with years of orders from the food and healthcare employers, is what private equity funds and individual acquirers go looking for. Our home services page explains how HVAC, plumbing and similar trade companies are valued.
What costs Tyler owners money is usually preparation, not location: records that do not reconcile, a customer list that lives in the owner's head, or a key manager with no reason to stay. The opening meeting costs you nothing and stays between us: we go through three years of statements with you and give you a value range from low to high. From there we recast the financials, produce an HD video and a confidential package, and invite several buyers to make offers at the same time. You can read exactly how our success-only fee works, and the rest of the Piney Woods is on our region page.

Questions owners in Tyler ask
Are there buyers for a Tyler company that serves the hospitals and medical offices?
Yes, if the work is recurring and documented. Service companies whose customers are health systems tend to have steady demand. Buyers will study contract terms, how many facilities you serve, and whether the hospital contacts know your staff or only you. We present that clearly so the buyer can price it with confidence.
Will a buyer expect me to stay on after selling my Tyler business?
Usually for a transition period, and sometimes longer if the buyer is new to East Texas. The length, your role and your pay during it are all negotiated in the letter of intent. We push to settle those terms early, alongside price, so nothing about your role comes as a surprise at closing.
