Watermelons, a railroad name and a shipping town
Railroads reached Mineola in 1873 and the town incorporated in 1877. Its name was made up by railroad official Ira H. Evans, who combined the names of his daughter, Ola, and her friend Minnie Patten. Early on, the area shipped railroad ties and lumber, cotton, livestock, fruit and berries; sweet potatoes and a creamery came later, and the Mineola Watermelon Festival dates to 1948.
Mineola is still a shipping center, served by Amtrak's Texas Eagle, with Wood County Airport opened in 1984 and Lake Holbrook, completed in 1962, drawing visitors. Local employment has come from making women's clothing, sporting goods, electronic connectors, fertilizer and cattle feed, and from packaging dry beans and meat. The 2020 census counted 4,823 residents.

Selling a small-town manufacturer or food packer
Companies like these tend to sell to buyers who already make or distribute something similar, or to private equity groups adding a plant to a platform. They will look at equipment condition, food safety or quality records, customer contracts and whether the plant can grow without a new building. They will also want to know who runs the floor day to day, and whether that person stays.
In a town of under 5,000, confidentiality matters as much as price. Your company is described to buyers without its name, and the name stays sealed until a prospective owner has signed a nondisclosure agreement and demonstrated the means to pay. Our manufacturing engagements follow that approach from the first call, and so do sales in every other industry we handle.
How we get from first meeting to closing
The ten-step process starts with a discovery meeting, at no charge, where you get our opinion of value, and ends with funds wired at closing, usually three to nine months later. A principal represents you in negotiations, and there is no fee without a closing. Wherever you are in East Texas, the advisor makes the drive.

Questions owners in Mineola ask
Does being on a rail line and near an airport make my Mineola plant more attractive?
It can, if you use them. A buyer will value rail or air access by what it saves or earns: lower freight costs, faster delivery, customers you can reach. If your company does not use them today, they are a point in the marketing package rather than a line in the price.
Will a buyer move my Mineola operation somewhere else?
Some buyers consolidate plants; many keep a working operation where it is, especially if the workforce is skilled and the costs are reasonable. If keeping the company in Mineola matters to you, we say so to buyers early and weigh it along with price when offers come in.
