Tomball business brokers and M&A advisors

Tomball owners thinking about selling can work with MDR & Associates, business brokers who act for the seller only and bring qualified buyers into competition. Tomball sits in Harris County where FM 2920 meets State Highway 249, the Tomball Parkway, and its economy leans on a busy retail corridor and Tomball Regional Medical Center. We travel out to meet you, at the shop or wherever talking is easiest.

A railroad town, an oil field and a retail corridor

Tomball owes its name and its rail line to Thomas Henry Ball, an attorney for the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railroad who persuaded the company to run its tracks through downtown during the 1906 railroad boom. The town was named for him in 1907. Oil came in 1933 with the Tomball Oil Field, and by 1935 some 200 wells had produced 2,750,000 barrels. Humble Oil supplied residents with free water and natural gas until 1988 in exchange for drilling rights. The 2020 census counted 12,341 residents.

Sales tax now provides 45 percent of the city's general fund, a sign of how much the retail corridor along State Highway 249 matters. Tomball Regional Medical Center, with 357 beds, is a major presence, and events such as the German Heritage Festival draw visitors. For owners of trades, service companies and suppliers, the buyer pool includes Houston-area operators expanding along 249 and private equity groups building regional platforms. Our home services page covers HVAC, plumbing, roofing and landscaping companies.

Setting a price for a Tomball company

Value comes from adjusted earnings, and the adjustments are where many owners leave money on the table. Owner salary above market, family members on the payroll, personal vehicles and one-time repairs all change the real profit a buyer will receive. We rebuild the numbers in a financial recast and apply the multiple buyers are paying; for companies with $3 million to $100 million in revenue, that is most often three to seven times adjusted EBITDA. Our business valuation page explains the range in more depth.

A confidential sale, start to finish

After a free discovery meeting and an opinion of value, we prepare a marketing package and HD video and approach buyers with a blind profile. Details are released once a buyer has signed an NDA and shown it can fund the deal. Rival offers are weighed side by side with a principal of our firm, and nothing is due unless the sale closes. Our Houston page describes the metro's buyers.

Questions owners in Tomball ask

Will the growth along State Highway 249 raise the value of my Tomball company?

Only if it shows in your earnings. Buyers pay for profit they can verify, not for traffic counts. If your revenue has grown with the corridor, we document that trend by month and by customer so a buyer can see it is durable. If growth has not reached your numbers yet, we will tell you so honestly.

I run a family company in Tomball with relatives on the payroll. Does that complicate a sale?

It is common and manageable. Buyers need to know which family members will stay, what they are paid, and whether their pay matches the market. We adjust the earnings to reflect a normal payroll and help you plan each person's role after closing, which the buyer and your attorney will then put in writing.
