Conroe business brokers and M&A advisors
Conroe business owners sell from an unusual position: a county seat on Interstate 45, 40 miles north of Houston, in a city that has grown very fast. MDR & Associates is a business broker and M&A advisor that works for sellers only, and we come to Montgomery County from Frisco to meet you.
Lumber mill, oil boom and a lake-country county seat
Isaac Conroe founded the town in 1881 around a lumber mill. Fifty years later, in 1931, George W. Strake discovered the Conroe Oil Field, which had produced 40 million barrels by 1935, and in the 1930s Conroe had more millionaires per capita than any other city in the country.
The 2020 census counted 89,956 residents, and Conroe was ranked the fastest-growing large city in the United States for 2015 to 2016. In a 2016 count the largest employers were public: Conroe ISD with 7,200, Montgomery County with 2,166, and Conroe Regional Medical Center with 1,226. Private employers included National Oilwell Varco's downhole operation, Medivators and Tony Gullo Motors. Lake Conroe lies northwest of downtown, Loop 336 circles the city, and Lone Star College–Montgomery and a University of St. Thomas campus serve students.

Why home service companies in a growing county draw buyers
New households need air conditioning, plumbing, roofs, fences, lawn care and pest control, and a trade company that has built a base of maintenance customers in a growing county has what buyers pay for: revenue that repeats without a new sales push every month. Maintenance agreements that renew each year are the clearest proof of that. Private equity firms assembling regional home services companies, and individual buyers who want a proven operation north of Houston, both look for that. Our home services page explains the measures they use.
Oilfield suppliers and manufacturers are a different case, with buyers who will test customer concentration and how the company handled the last downturn. Either way, we prepare the recast, write the confidential package, produce the HD video and approach buyers from our own database before anything goes public. A company whose revenue fell with oil prices and then came back is not a problem, as long as the record shows how it recovered. The Houston page describes the wider metro, while the process page walks through each of the ten steps.

Questions owners in Conroe ask
Is now a good time to sell a Conroe company, given how much the area has grown?
Growth helps if your numbers show it: rising revenue, more maintenance customers, a team that has kept up. Buyers pay for proven results, not for the area's reputation. A free opinion of value tells you where you stand today, and whether a year of preparation could move the number.
My Conroe company serves customers across Montgomery County and north Houston. Does that help?
Usually. A wider service area with many customers reduces risk for a buyer, and it shows room to grow. We map where revenue comes from without naming customers, and we show how routes, crews and scheduling hold up, which is what a buyer from outside the area needs to see.
