Seguin business brokers and M&A advisors
MDR & Associates acts as business brokers and M&A advisors for Seguin owners who want to sell a profitable company for the most it can bring. Seguin, the Guadalupe County seat on the Guadalupe River, is home to large plants run by Schaeffler and Caterpillar. We travel to Seguin to meet you; there is no need to come to Frisco.
An industrial county seat between San Antonio and Austin
Seguin sits about 35 miles east-northeast of downtown San Antonio on Interstate 10 and roughly 50 miles south of Austin by Highway 123 and I-35. Its largest employer is the automotive electronics plant now run by Schaeffler, which began under Motorola and later belonged to Continental and Vitesco Technologies, with about 1,750 employees. A Caterpillar diesel engine assembly plant that opened in 2008 is the second-largest. The regional hospital is a major employer as well, and the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority keeps its main offices downtown.
Industry is not new here. Before the railroad, the town was known for building with concrete; after the tracks arrived in 1876, five brickworks went into operation. When the Darst Creek oil field opened in December 1929, Seguin became a supply center through the Depression years, while the farms and ranches around it kept producing cotton, pecans, corn and wheat. The 2020 census counted 29,433 residents.

What buyers ask a Seguin supplier before they make an offer
If your machine shop, fabricator or maintenance contractor does much of its work for one or two big plants, expect buyers to study that relationship closely. They want to know whether the work is under contract, how long it has lasted and what would happen if a plant changed vendors. A company that has spread its revenue across several customers usually earns a stronger multiple, and we show you where you stand before the company is offered to anyone.
Our manufacturing practice sells Texas makers and industrial suppliers, and it pays off to present equipment, capacity and customer terms in a way a buyer can verify. Smith Tool & Mfg. is one manufacturer the firm has sold.
How the sale runs for a company in Guadalupe County
After a no-cost first meeting and an opinion of value, we build three things: a confidential marketing package, a recast of your financial statements and a professionally produced HD video. The company then goes to screened buyers who have signed a confidentiality agreement, and we work to have more than one letter of intent on the table at the same time, so competition rather than a single bidder sets the price.
Most sales take between three and nine months from engagement to wired funds. Owners in Seguin can also compare notes with what we do for companies around Austin and across Central Texas.

Questions owners in Seguin ask
My shop depends on work from the big Seguin plants. Can I still sell it for a good price?
Often, yes, but the price depends on how secure that work looks to a buyer. Written agreements, a long history and a plan to add other customers all help. We review your customer mix at the first meeting and tell you plainly whether to sell now or strengthen it first.
Will buyers from outside Texas be interested in a Seguin company?
They can be. Our buyer list includes individuals, capital groups and private equity groups, and many look for profitable Texas companies with a solid workforce. Where the buyer comes from matters less than whether the numbers reconcile and the business can run without you.
