Luling business brokers and M&A advisors

Luling owners who want to sell a business privately and at full value can bring in MDR & Associates as their M&A advisor. Luling sits in southern Caldwell County on the San Marcos River, 47 miles south of Austin, with Interstate 10 connecting it to San Antonio and Houston, and our advisors travel to meet you there.

A cattle-drive town that struck oil

Luling was founded in 1874 as a railroad town and, in the cattle-drive era, earned a name as the toughest town in Texas. When the drives ended in the late 1880s, it settled to about 500 people and cotton ruled the local economy. Then Edgar B. Davis found oil: on August 9, 1922, the Rafael Rios No. 1 well struck at 2,161 feet, and by 1924 the Luling Oil Field was producing more than 15 million barrels a year. Decorated pumpjacks still stand along the main streets, the Watermelon Thump festival comes around every year, and the 2020 census counted 5,599 residents.

Oilfield and roadside companies in front of buyers

If your company supplies or services oil production, buyers will examine how it held up through past drilling cycles. If it lives on Interstate 10 traffic, they will study seasonality and dependence on travelers. We present either with the full history laid out, because unexplained swings cost more than honest ones.

Buyers of an older-economy company also look closely at equipment and people. A fleet that has been maintained, a shop with its safety records in order and a foreman who could run the place without you all raise confidence, and confidence raises price. We help you document those before a buyer asks.

Via I-10, San Antonio is 57 miles west and Houston 141 miles east, which puts a Luling company within reach of buyers in both. Our database of individuals, capital groups and private equity firms is the first place we look, and blind marketplace listings follow only if needed. Each stage is explained under how a sale works.

No fee unless it sells

Neither the discovery meeting nor the opinion of value costs anything. If you hire us, our success fee is paid only when the company sells. We work across Central Texas from our corporate office, in Frisco, which is why we come to you.

Questions owners in Luling ask

Is there still buyer interest in companies tied to the Luling oil field?

Buyers look at earnings and durability, not at how long a field has been producing. A company that has served oil producers profitably through several cycles, with a mix of customers and a capable crew, can draw serious interest. We show that record plainly and let several buyers bid against each other so the price reflects it.

Can a buyer from San Antonio or Houston run a Luling company?

Many do. Luling's position on I-10 between the two cities makes it practical for an owner-operator or a larger company to manage from either. Buyers will want to know who runs things day to day, so a strong local manager or foreman adds real value to the sale.
