Sealy business brokers and M&A advisors

MDR & Associates gives owners in Sealy sell-side representation as business brokers and M&A advisors, working only for the seller from first valuation to closing. The city lies on Interstate 10 about 49 miles west of downtown Houston, and we come to you there, at your business or somewhere discreet.

From railroad town to the birthplace of a mattress brand

Sealy was created in 1879, when San Felipe sold part of its original 22,000-acre township to the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad, and the new town was named for George Sealy of Galveston, a stockholder in the line. Two years later Daniel Haynes, a cotton gin builder, filled a request for a cotton-filled mattress, and the Sealy Mattress Company grew from it, later developing a machine that compressed cotton. Making things has been part of the town's story ever since.

Sealy sits on the eastern edge of the Texas-German belt settled by German emigrants, with a 2020 population of 6,839. Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 90, State Highway 36, the BNSF Railway and the Union Pacific Railroad all pass through, which is why companies that make or move goods look closely at the area.

Selling a manufacturer or distributor on the I-10 corridor

Buyers of a production or distribution company want to see equipment condition, customer concentration, gross margins by product line and whether freight costs are under control. A plant with one customer over a third of sales is priced very differently from one with fifty. We have sold Texas manufacturers, and our manufacturing page covers what those buyers examine. If you want an independent number before you decide, a formal business valuation is available as a separate service.

Who sits across the table from you

We go first to our own database of qualified individual buyers, capital groups and private equity groups, and only if needed place blind ads on the major business-for-sale marketplaces. We then work to have several letters of intent in hand at the same time, since competing offers are what move a price. A principal of MDR takes part in each negotiation, and every offer is presented to you in person so you can accept, reject or counter. More on the wider region is on our Gulf Coast page.

Questions owners in Sealy ask

Does being on Interstate 10 near Houston help when I sell a Sealy company?

It widens the pool. Sealy is about 49 miles from downtown Houston, so a buyer based there can visit easily, and many private equity and out-of-state buyers look for Texas companies along the highway between Houston and San Antonio. Each one is still screened for funding before they learn your company's name.

Can a Sealy manufacturer with an older plant still sell for a good price?

Often, yes. Buyers price the cost of what they will need to replace, so a clear list of equipment, its age and its maintenance history helps them plan instead of guessing. Strong margins and loyal customers carry more weight than new machines. We put that information in the marketing package from the start.
