Garland business brokers and M&A advisors
Garland owners who want to sell a company to the right buyer, at a price set by competition, can retain MDR & Associates as their M&A advisors. Garland, with 246,018 residents in 2020, is the 13th most populous city in Texas and spreads across Dallas, Collin and Rockwall counties northeast of Dallas. It has long been a manufacturing city, with electronics, steel fabrication, oilfield equipment, aluminum die casting and food processing among its industries.
Hats, pickles, drilling equipment and die casting
During the Second World War, Garland had aircraft plants, and in the 1940s it was a major onion-shipping point. Resistol has made premium hats here since 1938, Craddock moved its pickle operation to the city in the 1930s, and Wingstop was founded in Garland in 1994. The city also runs its own electric utility, Garland Power and Light, founded in 1923. Walmart launched its first Hypermart USA prototype here in 1987, and both Firewheel Town Center and the Curtis Culwell Center arena opened in 2005.
Its larger employers include the Garland school district, the city, Kraft Foods, US Food Service and Epiroc Drilling Solutions. Dairy products and hat manufacture round out the list of industries the city is known for.

What buyers look for in a Garland manufacturer
For a fabrication shop, die caster or food processor, buyers look past revenue to what makes earnings repeatable: a maintained equipment base, a trained workforce, written processes and customers under contract. They will also ask about environmental and safety records, the capital spending the plant will need and how much of the know-how lives in the owner's head. We gather that evidence before marketing, so the buyer's inspection turns up nothing new.
With so many manufacturers in one city, a competitor or supplier may be among the likeliest buyers. That can help, because a strategic buyer can sometimes pay for the overlap, but it raises the stakes on confidentiality. We release operating detail to competitors in stages and hold back customer names and pricing until a letter of intent is signed.
Our manufacturing work and our business valuation service both begin with a financial recast: three years of numbers adjusted for one-time and owner-specific costs, which is what buyers use to set a price.

Questions owners in Garland ask
My Garland shop's equipment is older but well maintained. Will buyers discount it?
Buyers look at what the equipment produces and what it will cost to keep running. Maintenance logs, uptime and a realistic capital plan often matter more than age. We present that record in the marketing package, and where a major replacement is coming, we price it in openly rather than let a buyer raise it late in diligence.
Who buys food and consumer-products companies in Garland?
Usually strategic buyers already in the category, private equity groups building in food or consumer goods, and sometimes well-funded individuals. We present the company to all three. What decides value is the strength of its customers, brands, margins and food-safety record, not the city on the address.
