Yoakum business brokers and M&A advisors

When a Yoakum owner decides to sell a company, MDR & Associates runs the sale from your side of the table as your M&A advisor, from valuation to closing. Yoakum is a railroad town spanning Lavaca and DeWitt counties, with a history in Tex-Tan leather goods and tomato farming, and our advisors come here to meet you.

Saddles, tomatoes and a railroad roundhouse

Yoakum was laid out in 1887 when the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway came through, and it incorporated in 1889. The railroad built a roundhouse and maintenance shops that employed hundreds of workers. Later, the Tex-Tan company, which became part of the Tandy Corporation, made saddles, bridles, harnesses, belts and wallets here. A dairy, a cannery, meat-packing and food-processing plants and a metalworking shop added to the town's industry.

Starting in 1926, tomato farming became a major business, and Yoakum was known as the tomato capital of south central Texas. The 2020 census counted 5,908 residents. Hallettsville is 17 miles northeast, Cuero 16 miles southwest, Shiner 8 miles north and Edna 39 miles southeast by State Highway 111.

What a buyer looks for in a small-town maker

Yoakum's history is one of making things, and buyers of manufacturers and food producers ask similar questions everywhere: how old is the equipment, who are the customers, what does it cost to produce each unit and who on the floor knows how the process works. Our manufacturing practice builds those answers into the marketing package so a buyer can check them quickly.

Buyers also watch for single points of failure. If one supervisor or the owner holds every recipe, pattern or customer contact, we help you write it down and share it before the sale.

Food processors carry an extra layer: inspection history, supplier agreements for raw products and how seasonal the work is. A buyer who can see all three laid out plainly spends less time worrying and more time negotiating.

Questions owners in Yoakum ask

Can a food or leather-goods producer in Yoakum attract serious buyers?

Yes, if it is profitable and has records that reconcile. Buyers of small manufacturers care about margins, repeat customers and a trained workforce. We show the company first to buyers we already know and have vetted, and use public listings only if needed.

My company straddles Lavaca and DeWitt counties. Does that complicate a sale?

Not usually. A buyer's attorney will check property, permits and taxes in both counties during due diligence. We collect those documents early so they are ready when a buyer asks and the closing date does not slip.
