Edna business brokers and M&A advisors

Edna, the Jackson County seat on U.S. 59, sits 25 miles from Victoria and about 100 from Houston. An Edna owner with a company to sell can bring in MDR & Associates, an M&A advisor with no stake on the buyer's side. Expect an advisor from Frisco to come to you, in Edna or wherever you prefer.

A railroad town that replaced Texana

Edna was established in 1882, when the New York, Texas and Mexican Railway built its line from Rosenberg to Victoria and bypassed Texana, then the county seat. Italian laborers from Lombardy built the railroad. Edna is now the seat of Jackson County and counted 5,987 residents at the 2020 census.

It is the center of a prosperous agricultural area with petroleum and natural gas production. Two grain elevators and oilfield service companies anchor local industry, and the town supports a hospital, three banks and two savings and loan associations. Lake Texana, an 11,000-acre impoundment on the Navidad River, lies six miles east, and Edna is its gateway. Corpus Christi is 119 miles southwest along the Future I-69 route, and the area drains through the Lavaca River watershed toward the Gulf.

Oilfield service and farm companies: what a buyer will test

Buyers of an oilfield service company want to know how revenue moved with drilling activity, how many operators you serve, what your equipment is worth, and whether your safety record will pass their review. Buyers of a farm-related company, such as a grain handler, an equipment dealer or an input supplier, ask about harvest-year swings and grower relationships. In both cases, a financial recast that removes one-time costs and owner expenses shows the earnings buyers are really paying for. Owners who also hold land, leases or mineral interests should decide early which of them belong in the deal and which stay with the family.

Our business services page covers service companies of this kind. We market the company confidentially, first to buyers in our own database, and work toward competing offers from individuals, industry companies and private equity firms. A principal of the firm leads each negotiation, and nothing is owed in fees unless a sale actually closes. Buyers from the Houston side are covered on our Houston page, and nearby coastal towns on the Gulf Coast region page.

Questions owners in Edna ask

Will buyers from Victoria or Houston be interested in an Edna company?

Both can be. Victoria is 25 miles away and Houston about 100, and companies in either city sometimes buy to extend their reach along U.S. 59. We also bring in individual buyers and private equity firms from further away, so you are not limited to the nearest city.

My company owns equipment and a yard near Edna. How is that valued in a sale?

Equipment is usually included in the price and valued as part of the operating business, while real estate can be sold with it or leased to the buyer. We list equipment with its condition and age, and your CPA helps weigh the tax effect of each structure before offers arrive.
