Wylie business brokers and M&A advisors

MDR & Associates helps owners sell a business in Wylie through a confidential process with several buyers competing for the company. Wylie began in Collin County and now reaches into Dallas and Rockwall counties, on State Highway 78 about 24 miles northeast of central Dallas, and our firm is based in the same Metroplex.

From onion fields to an intermodal rail yard

Wylie was organized in the early 1870s as Nickelville, reportedly named for its first store. In 1886 the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway laid track half a mile north of the original townsite, and the town took the name of Lt. Col. William D. Wylie, a right-of-way agent for the railroad. Onions were the cash crop in the 1930s and 1940s, and dairy farms grew to supply nearby Dallas. Building Lavon Dam five miles north, and the choice of Wylie for the North Texas Municipal Water District offices, pushed the population to 1,804 by 1960. The 2020 census counted 57,526 people.

Freight still shapes the town. Kansas City Southern runs a line roughly parallel to SH 78 and operates an intermodal facility in the city. For owners of trucking, warehousing and wholesale companies, that access is part of the story buyers hear. Our distribution practice explains how acquirers value routes, inventory and supplier terms.

The question buyers ask a company that grew with its town

A company that expanded alongside a fast-growing city raises one question above all: how much of that growth continues after the owner leaves? We answer it with a financial recast, which removes one-time costs and personal expenses from reported earnings, and with a clear picture of the customer base and the managers who run daily work. Collin College opened its Wylie campus in August 2020 with room for up to 7,500 students, which can help when a buyer asks where the next technicians and office staff will come from.

How the first meeting works

Because the firm is based in the Metroplex, we meet in Wylie, at your company or somewhere quiet. There is no charge for it, and once we have read three years of your statements we give you an opinion of value, a range from low to high. We then present the company to our own database of qualified individual, capital-group and private equity buyers before any blind public ad. No sale, no fee. For more on how we work in the city next door, see our Dallas page.

Questions owners in Wylie ask

My company is in Wylie, but most of my customers are elsewhere in the Metroplex. Does that help?

Often it does. A broad customer base spread across the region reduces dependence on any single account, and buyers reward that. We map revenue by area and by customer so buyers can see both the spread and the room to grow, and we explain why customers have stayed with you.

Does Wylie's rail and intermodal access affect what a logistics company is worth?

It can. A buyer weighing a trucking, warehousing or wholesale company will look at how freight reaches it and how quickly it serves customers. We describe that access in the marketing package, but price still comes from earnings, customer mix and the quality of your records, so those are what we prepare first.
