Wills Point business brokers and M&A advisors

Wills Point, in Van Zandt County on U.S. Highway 80, is a small town where some businesses have lasted well over a century, which is exactly why planning a sale matters. MDR & Associates, whose M&A advisors sit on the owner's side of the table, will come to Wills Point to meet you at your company or wherever you are comfortable.

The Bluebird Capital and its century-old storefronts

Wills Point was founded in 1873 and named after William Wills, who arrived around 1848; General Grenville M. Dodge laid out the town. In 1995 Governor George W. Bush named it the Bluebird Capital of Texas. The 2020 census counted 3,747 residents. U.S. 80 and State Highway 64 run through town, and the Van Zandt County Regional Airport, formerly the city's municipal airport, serves the area.

The town still holds buildings more than a hundred years old, among them the Wills cabin, a drug store, a dry goods store and a law office. The Majestic Movie Theater ran from 1926 until 2010, and the Bruce and Human Drug Company, built in 1879, closed in 2023. Those dates carry a lesson for any small-town owner: even a business that lasts 144 years eventually needs a plan for what comes next.

Planning a sale instead of a closing

For many owners in small towns, the real alternative to a sale is shutting the doors. A sale usually serves everyone better: the owner is paid for what was built, employees usually keep their jobs, and customers keep their supplier. Buyers exist for profitable small-town companies, from individuals who want to leave the city to regional competitors and private equity groups, but finding them takes a deliberate search.

That search starts with a free, confidential conversation; we then work through three years of your financial statements and come back with a price range, bottom and top, that we think the market will support. We then recast the numbers, prepare the marketing package and video, and approach qualified buyers in our own database before anything else. Our page on how we sell your business describes each step.

Van Zandt County lies east of the Metroplex along U.S. 80. Our Dallas page describes the larger market to the west, and our East Texas page covers the rest of the region.

Questions owners in Wills Point ask

Is my Wills Point business too small or too old-fashioned to sell?

Age is not a problem; many buyers like established companies with loyal customers. Size matters more. Our clients' companies usually bring in $3 million or more a year with a steady profit. If yours falls short of that, we say so plainly and point out what would make it more sellable.

Could a Dallas buyer be interested in a company in Wills Point?

Yes. U.S. Highway 80 connects Wills Point with the Metroplex, and buyers based there sometimes look east for established companies with loyal local customers. Our search reaches buyers statewide, private equity groups and individuals among them, and competing offers set the price.
