The Colony business brokers and M&A advisors
The Colony borders Frisco, where MDR & Associates has its corporate office, so owners here are about as close to our team as it gets. When you decide to sell a business in The Colony, we represent you and nobody else, and a first meeting at your company can be arranged at short notice.
The City by the Lake, from Fox and Jacobs to 44,000 residents
The Colony is named after the Peters Colony. Its modern history starts in 1973, when home builders Fox and Jacobs bought 3,000 acres; the city incorporated in January 1977, became a home-rule city in 1979 and merged with Eastvale in 1987. The population grew from 11,586 in 1980 to 36,328 in 2010 and 44,534 at the 2020 census.
The city calls itself the City by the Lake, with about 23 miles of shoreline on Lewisville Lake to the west. Frisco lies to the north and east, Carrollton and Plano to the south, and the Sam Rayburn Tollway and FM 423 carry traffic through town. The city has its own Economic Development Corporation, and Lewisville ISD and Little Elm ISD run the schools. Companies that serve the lake neighborhoods and the suburbs around them, such as HVAC, plumbing, landscaping and garage door firms, match the home services companies our firm has sold elsewhere in Texas, and buyers know that type well.

A sale run from next door
Being so close changes the practical side of a sale. Discovery meetings, buyer visits and negotiating sessions can be scheduled around your week instead of around travel, and a principal of our firm can be in the room for every negotiation without anyone flying in. A typical sale runs three to nine months between the engagement letter and the wire transfer, and short distances help keep that schedule on track.
Closeness also raises the stakes on confidentiality, because your customers, suppliers and employees may cross paths with people in the same business circles. The first document a buyer reads names no company, and nobody gets your company's name without a signed nondisclosure agreement and a financial profile. Before any of that, a free valuation snapshot gives you a range online, and our Dallas page and Dallas–Fort Worth region page describe the wider market.

Questions owners in The Colony ask
Can I meet MDR & Associates at its Frisco office, just north of The Colony?
Yes. The corporate office, 1518 Legacy Drive, Suite 220, Frisco, is a short drive for most owners here, and some prefer it because nobody at their company will see the meeting. We can also meet at your business after hours or in your attorney's or CPA's conference room.
Will buyers expect my company in The Colony to have grown as fast as the city has?
Buyers pay for growth your records prove, not growth they imagine. If your revenue rose along with the city's population, show it year by year and customer by customer. If it did not, we explain why and focus on steady profit instead, which many buyers value just as highly.
