Shamrock business brokers and M&A advisors

Shamrock is a small city at the crossroads of Interstate 40, the old Route 66, and U.S. Route 83, about 110 miles east of Amarillo. MDR & Associates advises owners of established, profitable companies who want to sell them, working as their M&A advisor, and if yours is in Shamrock or elsewhere in Wheeler County, our advisors will make the drive to meet you.

Route 66, oil and gas, and a town of 1,789

Settlers arrived in 1890, the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway set up a station in 1902, and the city incorporated in 1911 under a name its founder, George Nickel, took from the shamrock. Oil was found in 1926, and the population peaked at 3,778 in 1930. Oil and gas processing plants and a chemical plant have been part of the local economy, and the Art Deco U-Drop Inn, a 1936 Conoco station restored with a $1.7 million federal grant, still draws travelers off the interstate.

The 2020 census counted 1,789 residents, and the city lies 188 miles west of Oklahoma City on the same highway that runs to Amarillo.

Selling a company the whole town knows

Our clients usually run companies with annual sales of at least $3 million. Where fewer than 2,000 people live, a company that size is likely one of the most visible employers around, and word of a sale would travel fast. So the process stays quiet from the first call: buyers see no name until they sign a nondisclosure agreement and show their financing, and meetings can be held away from the business.

Owners in small places are also more likely to be the business: the person customers call, the one who knows the equipment and the one who signs the checks. Buyers pay less for a company that depends on one person, so we look for ways to show depth, such as a foreman who runs the crews or an office manager who handles billing. Our process builds that into the marketing package from the beginning.

A realistic price matters even more when the buyer pool is thin. A formal business valuation gives you and any partners a defensible number, and our West & North Texas page describes our reach into the Panhandle and beyond.

Questions owners in Shamrock ask

Will anyone buy a company in a town as small as Shamrock?

Yes, if the company is profitable and can run without you. The size of the town matters less than the size and steadiness of the earnings. Likely buyers include operators already working along I-40, investment groups and people willing to move to the Panhandle for the right company. We reach them through our own database before any public listing.

My Shamrock company serves the oil and gas plants. How will buyers view that?

Carefully, because demand can follow commodity prices. Buyers will look at several years of results, how many customers you have, and whether contracts are written. Our recast lays out the whole cycle so a strong year is not mistaken for normal and a weak one does not set your price.
