Vernon business brokers and M&A advisors
Vernon is the Wilbarger County seat, 50 miles northwest of Wichita Falls where U.S. Routes 70, 183, 283 and 287 meet, and its economy runs on food processing, agriculture and public institutions. If you are looking for M&A advisors to help you sell a company in Vernon, MDR & Associates works for the owner alone, and the drive up U.S. 287 is ours to make, not yours.
Bacon, guar and the Waggoner Ranch
The settlement was called Eagle Springs in 1858 and Eagle Flat after that, and it took the name Vernon in 1880 after George Washington's Mount Vernon. The Wichita Mill and Elevator Company was established in 1905, and a BNSF freight line still runs through the area. The 2020 census counted 10,078 residents, and Vernon is the center of a micropolitan statistical area.
Today's employers include a Tyson Foods bacon-processing plant, a Rhodia guar-processing facility, North Texas State Hospital and a Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center. The Waggoner Ranch nearby is described as the largest spread in Texas under one fence. Vernon College serves the area and runs a branch campus in Wichita Falls.

What a buyer sees in a company near the processing plants
When large processors and a state hospital sit at the center of a local economy, smaller companies tend to grow up around them: maintenance and repair shops, trucking and freight, equipment suppliers, food-service and janitorial contractors. Buyers value that steady institutional demand, but they will ask whether your contracts renew on their own or have to be won again, and how you would replace a major customer.
Buyers also look at who holds the knowledge. If only you know how to keep a customer's line running or how to price a bid, a buyer will want you to stay longer or will pay less up front. We help you write down procedures and put a second person on key accounts before a sale, and our manufacturing page describes how buyers evaluate processing and fabrication companies.
How we work with Wilbarger County owners
Our advisors travel to Vernon for the first meeting, which costs nothing and stays confidential, and return with an opinion of value once they have studied three years of statements. Your company stays anonymous to every buyer who has not yet signed a nondisclosure agreement and shown that their financing is real. Our fees are owed only if the company sells, and the West & North Texas page shows where else we work.

Questions owners in Vernon ask
My Vernon company's biggest customer is one of the local plants. Is that a deal breaker?
No, but it shapes the deal. A buyer will want to see how many years you have served that plant, whether the work is under contract and how the plant's own plans might affect you. With a strong record, concentration may be handled through deal terms, such as part of the price paid over time, rather than a lower price.
Will buyers from Wichita Falls or farther away be interested in a Vernon business?
They can be. Vernon sits on four U.S. highways and a rail line, 50 miles from Wichita Falls, which makes it a practical base for companies serving a wide stretch of North Texas. We market to qualified buyers across Texas and to private equity groups, not only to people who already know the town.
