Amarillo business brokers and M&A advisors
Amarillo owners planning an exit can retain MDR & Associates as M&A advisors to sell a profitable company at a price set by competing buyers. In a Panhandle city where about a quarter of the nation's beef supply is processed and Interstate 40 crosses Interstate 27, we travel up to see you, at the business or somewhere discreet.
Beef, helium, rails and the Pantex plant
Amarillo spans Potter and Randall counties in the Texas Panhandle and had 200,393 residents in 2020. By the late 1890s it was one of the world's busiest cattle-shipping points. Natural gas was found in 1918 and oil three years later; the federal government bought the Cliffside Gas Field in 1927, and for many years the plant there was the only producer of commercial helium in the world, which earned Amarillo the title Helium Capital of the World.
Today about one-quarter of the United States' beef supply is processed in the area, and around 14 million acres of farmland surround the city, growing corn, wheat, cotton, sorghum, hay and soybeans. Major employers have included Tyson Foods, Pantex, Bell Helicopter Textron, Owens-Corning, Amarillo National Bank, Baptist St. Anthony's and Northwest Texas Healthcare System. BNSF runs roughly 100 to 110 trains a day through town, Union Pacific also serves it, and U.S. 60, 87 and 287 meet here.

Selling a company in Amarillo to buyers from beyond the Panhandle
Amarillo sits closer to the capitals of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado than to Austin, and a strong company here can interest buyers from several states. The companies that attract them tend to support the local economy: feed and farm supply distributors, trucking and cold-chain operators, fabricators and machine shops that serve plants and processors, and HVAC and electrical contractors. Our distribution practice and manufacturing practice cover those sales.
Buyers will focus on customer concentration around the big processors and plants, equipment condition and whether key managers will stay. We prepare those answers before marketing starts, so the first conversations are about price, not doubts.
A private process, run from Frisco and delivered in person
We are headquartered in Frisco and make the trip to the Panhandle for meetings. You can start with the free online valuation snapshot or go straight to a confidential discovery meeting. Buyers see a profile with no name attached, and each one signs an NDA and documents their financing before we say more, and we ask several of them for letters of intent at once. Other Panhandle and West Texas towns appear on our West and North Texas page.

Questions owners in Amarillo ask
My Amarillo company sells mostly to meatpacking plants. How will buyers view that?
They will want to know how many plants you serve, how long you have worked with each and whether pricing is under contract. Service to several processors, with long relationships and solid safety records, can be a strength. We show how revenue is spread and why it is likely to continue under a new owner.
Do Amarillo companies sell to buyers in Oklahoma, New Mexico or Colorado?
They can. Because Amarillo is closer to the capitals of those three states than to Austin, a buyer from one of them may want a Texas Panhandle base. We market to qualified buyers across the country, not only in Texas, and no buyer sees details about your company without first signing a confidentiality agreement and showing proof of funds.
