Nederland business brokers and M&A advisors
For a Nederland owner ready to sell, MDR & Associates provides M&A advisors who act solely for the seller and run the sale from first valuation to closing. Founded in 1897 by Dutch settlers, Nederland sits between Beaumont and Port Arthur in the Golden Triangle, ten miles from one and eight from the other. We come to you for meetings, at your place of business or somewhere out of sight.
A Dutch farm town that became an oil terminal hub
The settlers named their town for the Netherlands; Nederland means lowland. Rice and dairy farming came first, until the depression of 1907 broke the rice business. By then Spindletop had been discovered in 1901, and oil terminals grew up around the town, which incorporated in 1940. Today the Keystone Pipeline ends here, and Energy Transfer ranks among the largest employers after the school district. The 2020 census counted 18,856 residents.
The area's fortunes have followed energy. In the 1940s and 1950s the ports of Port Arthur and Beaumont were as important as those of New Orleans, Houston and Galveston, while the oil price decline of the 1980s brought a drop in population that steadied only in the late 1990s. Buyers remember those cycles. A company that serves terminals, pipelines and refineries in the Golden Triangle should show how it performed through its own ups and downs, not just in its best year. Our manufacturing page covers what buyers of industrial companies ask.

Showing buyers a steady Nederland business through the cycles
Buyers reading the financials of an energy-area company look for three things: revenue spread across more than a handful of customers, margins that held when activity slowed, and service contracts or backlog that carry into the next year. Our financial recast normalizes the years so a buyer can compare them fairly, and the marketing package explains any dip in plain terms. When the story is told up front, buyers are less likely to cut their offer in due diligence.
What happens after you call us
We hold a free, confidential discovery meeting and follow it with a low-to-high opinion of value. Buyers first receive a blind profile; they sign an NDA and complete a financial profile before they learn your name. Several letters of intent are negotiated side by side, and a principal of the firm takes part in every round. See our fees and the Gulf Coast region page for more.

Questions owners in Nederland ask
Will buyers from Houston look at a company in Nederland, 90 miles away?
Yes, especially when the company serves refineries, terminals or pipelines that Houston buyers already work with. Ninety miles is a short distance for an acquirer that wants a foothold in the Golden Triangle. We also reach private equity groups and individual buyers, so the competition for your company is not limited to the closest firms.
Should I wait for a stronger oil market before selling my Nederland company?
Timing matters, but waiting for a perfect year can backfire if your own plans or health change. What buyers pay for is sustainable earnings. We look at your last three years and current results, give you an honest range, and tell you whether waiting is likely to move that range enough to justify the delay.
