Beaumont business brokers and M&A advisors
MDR & Associates serves Beaumont owners as an M&A advisor for the seller only, from the first estimate of value through closing. Beaumont is the seat of Jefferson County on the Neches River, about 85 miles east of Houston, and an advisor drives over from our Frisco headquarters whenever you want to meet.
Rice, lumber, Spindletop and the port
Beaumont was founded in 1838 and has reinvented its economy several times. A lumber boom peaked late in the 19th century. In 1892 the first commercially successful rice mill in Texas opened here, and in 1901 the Spindletop oil discovery changed the city for good. During World War II Beaumont was a major defense shipbuilding center, and today the Port of Beaumont ranks among the largest seaports in the United States by tonnage.
The city had 115,282 residents in 2020 and anchors a metro area of 404,872, about 30 miles inland from the Gulf. Its largest employers show the mix: Lamar University with 2,546, the Beaumont school district with 2,317, the ExxonMobil Beaumont Refinery with 2,189, Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with 2,136 and Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas with 1,653. Burrow Global Services, Conns Appliances and Alorica also employ hundreds, and the Lamar Institute of Technology adds a second campus.

Selling a refinery-town company to buyers in Houston and beyond
A Beaumont company may serve the refinery, the port, the hospitals or the university, and each of those customer types reads differently to a buyer. Refinery and port work can be large and cyclical; healthcare and education work tends to be steadier. When we prepare a company here for market, we break revenue down by customer type and contract length so a buyer sees the real mix instead of assuming the worst about energy exposure. Buyers will also ask how much the company depends on you, and a management team that already runs the daily work adds real value.
The buyers are individual acquirers, companies in the same industry and private equity firms, and a drive of 85 miles from Houston does not put them off a good company. Our business services page describes how service companies are valued, and a formal valuation is available if you need a defensible number for partners or estate planning. The wider coast is covered on our Gulf Coast region page.

Questions owners in Beaumont ask
Will buyers discount a Beaumont company because of the refinery cycle?
Only as much as your numbers show exposure. If three years of results held steady through slower periods, buyers take that into account. We separate energy-related work from steadier work in the recast, which lets a buyer see how much of the business moves with the refinery and how much does not.
Can I meet buyers somewhere other than my Beaumont office?
Yes. We arrange first meetings at a neutral location or after hours, and site tours only after a buyer has signed an NDA and proven they have the money. You decide when your managers and staff are told, and we plan the timing of that conversation with you.
