Our advisors come to you, meeting at your office or somewhere private.
A railroad port that Spindletop turned into a refining center
Arthur Stilwell founded Port Arthur in 1895 as the southern end of the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad, and the port opened in 1899 when the British steamer Saint Oswald arrived. After Spindletop, J. M. Guffey Petroleum, later Gulf Oil, built a refinery and a pipeline to the city in 1901, and the Texas Company, later Texaco, began its refinery in 1902. By 1916 the Port Arthur refinery was one of the three largest in the United States. The 2020 census counted 56,039 residents.
Refining and petrochemicals still lead. Motiva, Valero and BASF operate major installations, and the Port of Port Arthur reaches the Gulf of Mexico through Sabine Pass. A company that maintains, inspects, fabricates for, supplies or transports around those plants usually sells on the strength of its customer relationships and trained crews. Our manufacturing page covers what industrial buyers examine.

Turnarounds, crews and contracts: preparing a Port Arthur sale
Plant work comes in waves, with maintenance turnarounds creating busy seasons and quiet ones. Buyers will want to see how revenue moves through those cycles and how the company holds on to skilled people between them. We show monthly results over three years, list the master service agreements and plant approvals the company holds, and explain who manages each relationship. That record lets buyers price the company on its real earning power rather than one unusual year.
How owners in Port Arthur work with us
Owners begin with a free, confidential meeting and receive an opinion of value. Buyers go through the same screen every time: blind profile, NDA, and a financial profile proving they can close. Buyers from Houston, Louisiana and beyond can all be invited, because the goal is enough competition that the market sets the price, not the first caller. We negotiate competing letters of intent, and a principal of the firm is present for each. See our Gulf Coast page and our Houston page for the wider market.

Questions owners in Port Arthur ask
Is my Port Arthur company too dependent on one refinery to sell?
Dependence on one large plant does not stop a sale. Buyers look at how long the relationship has lasted, whether you hold a master service agreement, and how the company would fare if volume dropped. We document those points and invite several buyers, which keeps any single one from pricing the risk too harshly.
Can the sale of my Port Arthur company include a period where I stay on?
Yes, and many buyers ask for one. A transition period of several months to a year, sometimes with a consulting agreement, helps customers and crews get to know the new owner. We negotiate the length, your role and your pay as part of the letter of intent, so the terms are clear before due diligence starts.
