Clute business brokers and M&A advisors

Clute grew because Dow Chemical came to southern Brazoria County in the early 1940s. If you own a company there and want to sell, you can engage MDR & Associates as your M&A advisor; we never represent buyers, and our advisors travel from Frisco to meet you in person.

A town that grew with Dow

In the early 1940s, Dow Chemical and several large construction companies moved into southern Brazoria County, and Clute began to prosper. The effect was quick: the population went from about 700 in 1950 to 3,200 by 1954. The 2020 census counted 10,604 residents, and the city is part of the Houston metropolitan area. For an owner selling today, that history raises a fair question buyers will ask: how much of the company's work traces back to the plants.

Clute also has a sense of humor about life on the coast. Every July since 1981 it has hosted the Great Texas Mosquito Festival, a three-day event that draws about 18,000 visitors, and a local restaurant and museum honors a mammoth discovery. Brazosport College serves the area, and Brazosport ISD runs the public schools, including Brazoswood High School.

Which Clute companies we take to market, and which we do not

Because construction shaped Clute's growth, it is worth being clear. General contractors and firms whose revenue comes from winning project bids are outside what we handle. We do represent trade and service companies with repeat customers and their own crews, in pest control, garage doors, landscaping, roofing, plumbing, air conditioning and heating, and trades like them, along with manufacturers, distributors and business service firms. The home services page goes into what drives value in those trades. If your company turns out to be outside our focus, we will tell you at the start rather than after months of work.

For those companies, buyers look at recurring revenue, service agreements, technician retention and whether the phone rings for the company or for the owner. An industrial service firm tied to the plants will also be asked about safety records and contract terms. We document all of it before a buyer asks, then take the company to our own list of qualified buyers first. Questions owners in Clute ask

I run a plant maintenance company in Clute. Is that construction, or something you can sell?

It depends on how the work comes in. Recurring maintenance under service agreements, with crews and repeat customers, is the kind of business services company we represent. Project-by-project construction bidding is not. Tell us how your revenue is earned and we will give you a straight answer in the first conversation.

Will buyers see my Clute company as too dependent on one plant?

If one customer carries most of the revenue, buyers will price that risk. We show the length of the relationship, the terms of your agreements and any growth with other customers. Where concentration is high, a longer handover or an earnout, where some of the price is paid after closing once agreed goals are reached, can bridge the gap.
