McKinney business brokers and M&A advisors
MDR & Associates is a sell-side firm of business brokers and M&A advisors based in the Metroplex, and McKinney, the Collin County seat about 32 miles north of Dallas, is part of our home market. We help owners of profitable companies price the business, reach qualified buyers in confidence and negotiate a sale they are glad they made.
Cotton, the railroad and a courthouse town
McKinney was incorporated in 1849. The Houston and Texas Central Railroad arrived in 1872 and made it the primary commercial center of Collin County, and work on the Old Collin County Courthouse began in 1874. A textile mill opened in 1910, and by 1926 Collin County had become the sixth largest cotton producer in the country. The historic downtown that grew from that trade is now the city's cultural hub.
McKinney is now Collin County's third-largest city, after Plano and Frisco, with 195,308 people at the 2020 census and an estimated 236,001 in 2025. The McKinney–Frisco urban area counted 504,803 residents in 2020. U.S. 75 and U.S. 380 serve the city, and McKinney National Airport, a general aviation field, is scheduled to begin commercial airline service in November 2026.

Raytheon, Encore Wire, Globe Life: who employs McKinney
The largest employer is Raytheon Intelligence & Space, with about 4,200 people. Next come McKinney ISD, Collin County government, Globe Life with 1,700, Encore Wire Corporation with 1,653, the city itself and two hospitals. For an owner, that list matters because large employers depend on suppliers and service providers of every size.
Owners of machine shops, electronics assemblers, industrial distributors and service contractors who work for large companies face a familiar question in a sale: how much of the revenue depends on one or two big customers. Buyers accept concentration when it is documented, with contract terms, years of history and a clear picture of how orders are won. Our manufacturing practice deals with that issue in plant and supplier sales across Texas.
Selling a company in McKinney: how we run it
The first step is a free, confidential discovery meeting. After we review three years of financials, you receive our opinion of value as a range from low to high. For most companies between $3 million and $100 million in revenue, that range falls between three and seven times adjusted EBITDA, meaning earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, corrected for owner expenses and one-time items. Where your company lands depends on growth, customer mix, management depth and how well the records hold up. If you want a first look before we meet, the valuation snapshot takes a few minutes.
Once engaged, we prepare a confidential marketing package, a recast of your financials and a professionally produced HD video. Buyers see a blind profile; to learn more, they register, sign a confidentiality agreement and submit a financial profile proving they can fund the deal. We go to our own list of individual buyers, capital groups and private equity groups before any blind listing on the public marketplaces.
When several buyers are interested, we negotiate their letters of intent side by side and bring every offer to you in person. A principal of the firm stays in the negotiation through due diligence and closing. Our corporate office is in nearby Frisco, and advisors are glad to meet at your business or somewhere discreet. The fee is a success fee only, explained on our fees page. Owners with operations across the Metroplex can also read our Dallas page.

Questions owners in McKinney ask
I supply parts or services to a large McKinney employer. How will buyers view that contract?
As both an asset and a risk. A long relationship with a large customer shows you can meet demanding standards, but buyers will ask what happens if that customer leaves. Written contracts, years of order history and a plan for adding customers all help. We present the relationship honestly so it supports your price instead of undermining it.
Does McKinney's population growth help the value of my home-services company?
It can. Buyers of HVAC, plumbing, roofing, landscaping and pest control companies look for markets where the number of homes keeps rising, and McKinney went from 195,308 people in 2020 to an estimated 236,001 in 2025. They still pay mainly for what your company has built: repeat customers, service agreements, trained crews and clean records.
Can I meet MDR & Associates without anyone at my McKinney company knowing?
Yes. Many owners hold the first meeting away from the business, at our corporate office in Frisco or at a private location of their choosing. Nothing about the meeting is shared, and no buyer learns your company's name until they have signed a confidentiality agreement and shown they can fund a purchase.
