Barstow business brokers and M&A advisors
Owners in Barstow looking for business brokers who will travel to far West Texas can talk to MDR & Associates, a sell-side firm for established Texas companies of roughly $3 million to $100 million a year in sales. Barstow is a town of 265 people in Ward County, and a company based here usually does most of its business well beyond the city limits.
Grapes, a broken dam and a lesson about single points of failure
George E. Barstow, an irrigation expert, founded the town in 1892, and for a while his plan worked: Barstow grapes won a silver medal at the 1904 World's Fair. That same year the Pecos River dam broke, and by 1918 drought had made farming impossible. The population, which passed 1,000 by 1900, never returned to that level. Monahans is the county seat, and Barstow shares a school district with Pecos and Toyah.
The story carries over to anyone selling a company out here. Buyers want to know that revenue does not rest on one condition staying the same, whether that is a single customer, a single contract or a single price. A business that kept earning through good years and bad ones is worth more than one with a single strong year to show.

Finding a buyer when the company is bigger than the town
A Barstow company that has grown to our size range almost always serves customers across Ward County and beyond, so its buyer is unlikely to be local. The first calls go to buyers already in our own files, from individuals with the means to buy to capital and private equity groups. None of them hears your name until they have signed a nondisclosure agreement and filled in a financial profile showing they can pay, and anonymous listings on the big for-sale websites come later, only when the first round falls short.
Buyers will also ask about crews and equipment: who runs the work day to day, how old the trucks and machines are, and whether key people will stay after closing. We gather those answers first, together with a recast of three years of financials, so the offers you receive rest on facts instead of guesses. Each piece has its place in the ten steps we follow.
What working with us looks like from Ward County
An advisor travels out to meet you, either at the business or wherever you can talk without being overheard, and neither that meeting nor the value range that follows costs you anything. We earn our fee on a closed sale and not otherwise, and our fee page explains how it scales with the size of the deal. More on how we cover the West and North Texas region is on our regional page.

Questions owners in Barstow ask
Is a company based in a town as small as Barstow too remote for serious buyers?
Not if it earns well and does not depend entirely on you. Many buyers look for profitable companies outside the big metros and are willing to relocate or hire a manager. What they need is clean records, a clear picture of customers and crews, and good reason to believe the earnings will continue after the sale.
My revenue swings from year to year. How will a buyer value that?
Buyers look at several years, not one. We recast three years of financials to show normal earnings and explain the swings plainly, including what drove the high and the low years. A company that stayed profitable through its slow periods usually earns a better multiple than one that can show only its best year.
