Smithville business brokers and M&A advisors
If you want to sell a business in Smithville, MDR & Associates can run the sale for you from first valuation to closing, representing only you. Smithville is a Bastrop County railroad town on State Highway 71, about 42 miles southeast of Austin, and our advisors drive out to meet owners here in person.
A railroad town that once led Bastrop County
Smithville owes its start to the railroad. A local landowner, Murray Burleson, persuaded the approaching line to put a terminus here, and trains came through in 1887. When the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad set up its central shops in town in 1894, Smithville became the largest town in Bastrop County for nearly fifty years. Cotton gins, lumber and brickyards, general stores, drugstores and a bank followed, and the town incorporated in 1895.
Today it is a small city of 3,922 people near the Colorado River, 12 miles southeast of Bastrop and part of the Greater Austin metro area. State Highways 71 and 95 both serve the town, along with Loop 230 and several farm-to-market roads.

Selling where every customer knows your name
In a town this size, the biggest risk in a sale is often not price but gossip. If staff or customers hear too early, good people may leave and customers may hesitate. That is why no buyer learns your company's name until they have signed a confidentiality agreement and shown they can pay for it.
The second issue is you. When an owner is the face of a small-town business, a buyer will want to know which relationships stay once you step back. We help you document how the company runs, who handles key accounts and how long you are willing to stay on during a transition. A buyer who sees that plan tends to offer more and worry less.
Some owners also need a number they can defend to a partner, a family member or a lender before they decide anything. For that, a formal business valuation can be ordered as its own service, separate from any sale.

Questions owners in Smithville ask
Is a Smithville company too small or too rural to attract buyers?
Location alone does not rule a company out. We work with profitable businesses earning $3 million to $100 million a year with records that reconcile. If yours fits, buyers look at earnings, customers and staff first. If it does not, we will tell you so at the first meeting.
How do I keep a sale secret in a town where everyone talks?
We market the company with a blind profile that leaves out your name and exact location. Only buyers who sign a confidentiality agreement and prove their finances learn who you are, and site visits are arranged after hours or away from your premises.
