Rockdale business brokers and M&A advisors
Rockdale owners looking for business brokers or M&A advisors can turn to MDR & Associates, which represents the seller alone. Rockdale is in Milam County, about 41 miles west of College Station, with U.S. Highway 79 as its main street, and our advisors come to you when it is time to meet.
An aluminum town that changed again
Rockdale's history shows how one employer can reshape a place. When Alcoa's aluminum smelting plant arrived in 1952, Rockdale almost doubled in population within a few years and shifted from a mostly agricultural economy to one driven by manufacturing jobs. Smelting halted in 2008 and the facility closed in February 2014; the Sandow Power Plant closed in 2018. The former Alcoa site now houses cryptocurrency miners Bitdeer and Riot Platforms, and as of 2023 the Riot facility was the most energy-intensive Bitcoin mining operation in the United States.
The history runs deeper still: around 1751 a wooden presidio, San Francisco Xavier de Gigedo, was built nearby to protect missions along the Camino Real. The 2020 census counted 5,323 residents.

What decades of heavy industry mean for a seller
If your company grew up serving the smelter or the power plant, in machining, fabrication, electrical or mechanical work, or supply, buyers will ask the obvious question: how has the business adapted since those plants closed? A company that has replaced lost work with new customers, including the mining operations now on the old Alcoa site, has a strong story to tell.
Buyers will also look at your equipment, your people and any environmental or permit questions tied to industrial work. Documenting maintenance, certifications and safety history before the sale saves time in due diligence. We have sold manufacturing companies such as Smith Tool & Mfg., and we know which records buyers of shops and fabricators ask for first.
Our manufacturing practice handles these conversations. We recast your financials, show how revenue has shifted, and present the company in a confidential package and HD video to buyers from our own database first.
Starting quietly
The first conversation and the valuation range it produces are free. Our representation for sellers keeps your name hidden behind a blind profile until each buyer signs an NDA and proves funding. Rockdale is one of the Central Texas towns we cover.

Questions owners in Rockdale ask
Will buyers discount my Rockdale company because the Alcoa plant closed?
They will ask how the closure affected you, so answer it with numbers. If revenue has recovered or shifted to new customers, that resilience is a selling point. We show several years of results around the closure and explain what changed, so buyers judge the business as it is today rather than by the town's past.
Can the mining operations at the old Alcoa site help me sell my Rockdale business?
They can if they are your customers. Any large, active customer adds to revenue, but buyers will also look at concentration and contract terms. We present those relationships accurately, show the rest of your customer base alongside them, and let buyers weigh the opportunity and the risk honestly.
