Mission business brokers and M&A advisors

MDR & Associates works with owners who have decided, or are deciding, to sell a business in Mission, the Hidalgo County city on Interstate 2 that borders McAllen to the east and the Rio Grande to the south. We represent the seller only, and an advisor comes to meet you in the Valley.

Home of the Ruby Red

Mission has advertised itself as the Home of the Ruby Red grapefruit since 1921. It is home to the Texas Citrus Exchange and holds the annual Texas Citrus Fiesta Parade along Conway Avenue. Palmhurst lies to the north and Palmview to the west, downtown McAllen is five miles away and Harlingen 41. The city belongs to both the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas, shares in the economic growth of neighboring McAllen, and counted 85,778 residents at the 2020 census.

Two kinds of companies stand out in that picture. One grew from the citrus trade: packing, hauling, cold storage and farm supply. The other grew with the population: heating and air, plumbing, roofing, landscaping and other trades that serve homes and businesses along I-2. Buyers look at each differently.

Crops, crews and what a buyer pays for

For a produce or supply company, buyers study seasonality, grower and customer relationships, equipment and cold-chain capacity, and how a freeze year or a poor harvest shows up in the numbers. Three years of records that explain those swings, rather than hide them, keep the price from being marked down.

For a trade company, the questions are about recurring work. How many customers have service agreements? How much revenue comes from repeat calls rather than one-off jobs? Are the technicians licensed, and would they stay? The home services page explains why buyers pay more for predictable revenue, and why private equity groups buying trade companies look closely at crews and dispatch.

Either way, we recast the financials to show true owner earnings, put together a confidential sales package and a filmed HD presentation of the company, and try to bring several offers in together so the price is set by competition. Our business valuation work explains how value is estimated.

Questions owners in Mission ask

My Mission company grew alongside McAllen. Will buyers treat it as a McAllen-area business?

They will look at where your customers are, not the city line. If much of your work is in McAllen, Edinburg or across the county, we show that spread. A company serving the whole metro area gives a buyer more room to grow than one tied to a few neighborhoods.

Is a citrus-related company in Mission harder to sell after a bad harvest year?

One bad year does not define the business if the longer record is sound. Buyers compare several years and ask what caused the dip. We explain it plainly, show how the company recovered or adjusted, and time the sale so the most recent results are not the weakest.
