Edinburg business brokers and M&A advisors
MDR & Associates works as a sell-side M&A advisor for owners in Edinburg, representing the seller alone when a company of $3 million to $100 million in revenue changes hands. Edinburg is the Hidalgo County seat and home to the main campus of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and advisors from the firm meet owners here in person, wherever the conversation can stay private.
A county seat built on courts, agencies and a university
Edinburg was founded on October 10, 1908, and won the courthouse because state law required it to sit near the center of a county then more than 80 miles long. The town carried the name Chapin until 1911, when it was renamed for John Young, a businessman born in Edinburgh, Scotland. It incorporated in 1919 and counted 100,243 residents in 2020.
Government is still the backbone. The Thirteenth Court of Appeals sits here, along with offices of the Attorney General's child support unit and the state departments of health services, human services and public safety. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice runs the Lopez and Segovia units, and the university's main campus is here as well.

Selling a firm whose best customers are public agencies
Plenty of companies around a county seat earn much of their revenue from government: janitorial and facilities firms, IT and records contractors, security, printing, engineering support. Buyers like the reliability of public customers but read the contracts closely. They will ask when each contract comes up for renewal, whether it can be assigned to a new owner, and how much of the total one agency represents. We sort through those questions before a buyer does, and our business services practice prepares the contract summary buyers expect to see.
From the first meeting to funds wired
Edinburg sits on US 281, which carries Interstate 69C along the east side of the city, and downtown McAllen is about 10 miles away. Our advisors travel to you for a free discovery meeting and, after reviewing three years of statements, give you a low-to-high opinion of value. From there the ten-step process takes most sales three to nine months: a marketing package and video, screened buyers, several letters of intent competing at once, due diligence and closing. Owners across the South Texas region follow the same path.

Questions owners in Edinburg ask
Does a contract with a state agency in Edinburg transfer when I sell?
It depends on the contract. Some can be assigned with the agency's consent, some require the buyer to qualify again, and some carry over untouched in a stock sale. Your transaction attorney decides the structure; we identify early which contracts need attention so a buyer's lawyer does not raise it late in due diligence.
Would a buyer from outside the Valley pay a fair price for my Edinburg company?
Often, yes. Private equity groups and individual buyers from Houston, Dallas and out of state look at profitable Texas companies regardless of city. What they need is clean financials, a management team that stays, and a clear picture of who your customers are. Competition among several of them is what sets the price.
