Del Rio business brokers and M&A advisors

MDR & Associates advises owners on how to sell a company in Del Rio, a border city where Laughlin Air Force Base is the largest employer and Ciudad Acuña lies just across the Rio Grande. We work only for the seller, and our advisors travel to Val Verde County to meet you.

Springs, irrigation canals and the Air Force's largest pilot school

Del Rio grew from irrigated farmland. In 1868 developers formed the San Felipe Agricultural, Manufacturing, and Irrigation Company, and by 1871 a network of canals carried water from San Felipe Springs. A post office followed in 1883, Val Verde County was organized in 1885 with Del Rio as its seat, and the city incorporated in 1911. It is the principal city of the Del Rio micropolitan area, at the southwestern corner of the Edwards Plateau, with 34,673 residents at the 2020 census.

Laughlin opened in 1942 as an Army Air Corps field for Martin B-26 training, was rebuilt in the Cold War as Laughlin Air Force Base, and is now the Air Force's largest pilot training base. The Val Verde Correctional Facility, opened in 2001 and expanded to 1,400 beds in 2007, is another major employer.

Government customers and a buyer from out of town

When a Del Rio company counts the base, the correctional facility or other public bodies among its main customers, the buyer's first questions are about contracts: how long they run, whether a new owner can take them over, and how often they are rebid. Facility maintenance, staffing, janitorial and supply companies all face this. Our business services page explains how buyers value recurring contract revenue.

Distance is the second question. A buyer based far from Val Verde County needs to trust that a manager on the ground can run things. If you have that person, we introduce them at the right stage; if you do not, it is worth building before a sale.

What it costs to find out

Nothing. The first meeting costs you nothing, neither does the opinion of value that follows, and the success fee is due only if a buyer closes. Buyers are checked for funds before any name is shared, and we bring your attorney and accountant in early rather than at the end. We meet in Del Rio wherever you prefer, on site or off. Questions owners in Del Rio ask

My Del Rio company's biggest customer is Laughlin Air Force Base. Is that sellable?

It can be, when the contract history is long and the work is performed well. Buyers will price the risk of rebidding, so we show every renewal, your performance record and the other customers who would remain if a contract changed. Clear documentation keeps that risk from dominating the price.

Will buyers value a Del Rio company differently because of its distance from big cities?

Some buyers prefer larger markets, others look for companies with a solid position in a smaller one. Distance matters less than management depth. A company with a capable local manager and steady earnings attracts buyers who will never live in Del Rio.
