The community did not build its first churches until 1892. Well over 100 buildings in the downtown date from the 19th century, and the place is known for its German heritage and for large ranches outside town. Comfort is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Kendall County, part of the San Antonio–New Braunfels metropolitan area, with 2,211 residents counted in 2020.
