Refinery, steel and import centers on Galveston Bay
Baytown had 83,701 residents at the 2020 census and spans Harris and Chambers counties, about 26 miles east of Houston by road on the north side of the Galveston Bay complex. Interstate 10, State Highway 99 and State Highway 146 serve it, and the Fred Hartman Bridge crosses to La Porte. The city was formed on January 24, 1948, when Goose Creek, Pelly and East Baytown combined.
Oil made the place. The Goose Creek Oil Field turned it into a boomtown, and in 1916 Humble Oil and Refining built the first offshore drilling operation in Texas here. ExxonMobil's Baytown Refinery is the city's largest taxpayer, Covestro and Chevron Phillips run major plants, the latter at Cedar Bayou since 1963, and JSW Steel USA operates the former U.S. Steel Texas Works. Walmart runs a 4.2 million-square-foot import center and Home Depot a 755,000-square-foot distribution hub, and Cedar Crossing Industrial Park covers 15,000 acres.

Who buys the companies that serve Baytown's plants and warehouses
An industrial economy on this scale supports a deep layer of smaller companies: maintenance and inspection firms, equipment and parts suppliers, trucking and warehousing, staffing and safety services. Buyers who want a position in that economy, whether acquirers already serving the plants or private equity firms building a larger company, look hard at them. Our distribution and wholesale page shows how buyers weigh inventory, supplier terms and delivery routes.
What these buyers examine first is concentration and contracts. If a single refinery or plant supplies most of your revenue, we document the relationship, the service agreements and the renewal record so a buyer can price it rather than fear it. Safety records, certifications and the supervisors who run the crews come next.
From the first conversation to funds wired
It starts privately, with a review of three years of financials and a value range we explain line by line. If we take the engagement, one of our principals stays at the table through every round of negotiation, we pursue several letters of intent together, and nothing is owed to us unless a sale closes, as the fees page sets out. Our Houston page covers the wider metro.

Questions owners in Baytown ask
My Baytown company works mostly for one refinery. Can it still sell well?
It can sell, but the price will reflect that dependence. Buyers look for multi-year agreements, a long relationship and evidence that the work continues regardless of who owns your company. We gather that proof before going to market, and where possible we show the newer customers you have added, which eases the concern.
Do buyers care that my company is on the Chambers County side of Baytown?
Rarely in itself. Buyers care about where your customers are and how your crews reach them. Baytown straddles both counties, and a company on either side sits close to Interstate 10 and the bay's industrial base. We focus the marketing on reach and earnings, not the county line.
