Steiner Ranch business brokers and M&A advisors
Steiner Ranch is a planned community of 16,713 people on a ridge between Lake Travis and Lake Austin, about 18 miles northwest of downtown Austin. If you own a company in the Austin area and are considering a sale, MDR & Associates can take the sale on as your M&A advisor, and we will come to wherever the conversation is most private: your company after hours, a lawyer's conference room or somewhere near the lakes.
A ridge above the Colorado River, built out in the 1990s
The community covers 4,600 acres inside a bend of the Colorado River. Developer Al Hughes bought the land from the Steiner family in the late 1980s, and it grew through the 1990s. The census first listed Steiner Ranch as a separate place in 2020, counting 5,502 households, just over half of them with children under 18. Leander ISD serves it with three elementary schools, Canyon Ridge Middle School and Vandegrift High School.
Steiner Ranch is almost entirely residential, so a page about selling a company here is really about owners who live here, wherever their business operates. What they share is a desire to keep the sale away from both the office and the neighborhood until the deal is done.

What Austin-area buyers expect from a privately held company
Buyers who look at Austin-area companies come in several kinds: private equity groups, larger companies moving into Central Texas and individuals relocating to the area. Most ask for the same things: clean monthly financials, a clear view of recurring revenue, customer contracts in the company's name, and a management team that does not depend on the founder. Where those pieces are missing, the price usually reflects it. A founder who still signs every proposal and approves every hire should expect that to come up in the first buyer meeting.
Before you decide anything, a formal business valuation can give you and your family a defensible number, and our first conversation with you, which is free, produces an opinion of value from three years of statements. From there we prepare the recast, the confidential package and a professionally filmed video, then approach the buyers already in our database before anyone else.

Questions owners in Steiner Ranch ask
I live in Steiner Ranch but my company is in another part of Austin. Can meetings stay away from both home and work?
Yes. We can meet in a conference room at your law firm or accounting firm, a private room somewhere neutral, or at the company after hours. Buyer visits are scheduled the same way. The goal is that neither employees nor neighbors notice anything until you are ready to tell them.
I want to keep living in Steiner Ranch after I sell. Can I stay involved with my Austin company?
Often, yes. Many buyers want the seller to remain through a handover, and some propose a longer consulting arrangement or invite the owner to keep a minority stake. These terms are negotiated along with price, and we make sure the time you commit and the pay you receive are spelled out before you sign.
