San Angelo business brokers and M&A advisors
San Angelo has an Air Force base, a university, a regional medical center and steel fabricators, which gives buyers several reasons to look at companies here. MDR & Associates represents sellers in the city and across Tom Green County as their M&A advisor, and we come to you, whether that is the shop floor, the front office or a quiet table across town.
Goodfellow, Shannon, Angelo State and the steel shops
The city grew up around Fort Concho, founded by the U.S. Army in 1867 where the North and South Concho rivers meet, and it is the seat of Tom Green County, about 225 miles west of Austin. The 2020 census counted 99,893 residents in the city and 121,516 in the metro area. Goodfellow Air Force Base, established during World War II, is the largest employer, supporting more than 24,000 people through jobs and income.
The base is only part of the picture. Shannon Medical Center employs over 3,000 people, and a Sitel call center, Frontier Communications and Blue Cross each employ more than 1,000. Angelo State University, founded in 1928, enrolls about 10,000 students. Manufacturing includes Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson division, along with Conner Steel and Hirschfield Steel. Oil and gas field-service companies work the surrounding country, and Producer's Livestock Auction is the largest sheep and lamb auction in the nation.

How buyers read a Concho Valley company
A varied economy helps a seller. A fabrication shop that supplies both oilfield and industrial customers, or a service company with contracts across healthcare, education and the base, shows a buyer that revenue will not fall with one industry. We make that spread visible, with revenue by customer type, by sector and by year, so buyers can judge how the business fared when drilling slowed.
Manufacturers should know that buyers study equipment age, capacity, certifications and the depth of the shop floor as closely as the income statement. Our manufacturing page describes that review. If you need a figure that will stand up with a lender, a partner or an estate attorney, a formal business valuation is a separate, optional service.

Questions owners in San Angelo ask
Does being close to Goodfellow Air Force Base help a San Angelo company sell?
It can if the base is a customer or brings you customers, because government-related work is often steady. Buyers will ask how much revenue depends on the base, whether contracts are in your company's name, and what happens if spending changes. We show that dependence clearly rather than letting a buyer guess at it.
Can an oilfield service company in San Angelo sell during a slow year?
Yes, though timing affects price. Buyers value these companies on normal earnings over a cycle, not on one peak or one trough. We recast several years so a weak year is seen in context. If the outlook is poor, we may advise waiting and preparing, since we decline engagements we do not believe can reach full value.
