The company today, in its own words. A family-owned fencing company in Cross Roads, TX, founded in 2001, that builds residential and commercial fences and gates across North DFW: wood privacy, ornamental iron, chain link, automatic gates, vinyl and aluminum.

The sale

How it ran

Titan Fence is one of the largest fence companies in Dallas–Fort Worth, and for more than a decade a main supplier to some of the biggest home builders in the area.

In February 2014 we sold a majority interest in the company to Andrew Craft, who took over its direction and strategy while the business carried on with the quality and service it was known for.

I think anyone can find a buyer. The road from finding a buyer to cashing a check is fraught with pitfalls. The whole process is fraught with emotion and sometimes the smallest things can blow a deal up. The MDR team made sure our buyer and us kept our eye on the goal. We would not have gotten the amount of money we got for our business without them negotiating for us and we certainly would not have closed without MDR mediating the whole process.

What decided the price

What buyers look at in a home services company

Repeat and maintenance customers

Service agreements, seasonal contracts and customers who call you every year are what a buyer pays a premium for. Show them by count, renewal rate and revenue.

Technicians and crews who stay

A buyer is buying the people who do the work. Tenure, pay structure and who holds the customer relationships matter as much as the numbers.

Licenses and who holds them

If the master plumber or HVAC license sits with you personally, the buyer needs a plan for it before closing, not after.
