Teague business brokers and M&A advisors

To sell a business in Teague without the whole town knowing, hire MDR & Associates to find and negotiate with qualified buyers while you keep running the company. Teague is a Freestone County railroad town on U.S. Route 84, between Fairfield and Mexia, and we come to you here instead of asking you to travel.

The Trinity and Brazos Valley shops and what came after

The settlement was first called Brewer. It took the name Teague in 1906, the year the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway arrived and built its machine and car shops in town, which set off rapid growth. By 1914 Teague had cotton gins, a cottonseed oil mill and a cotton compress. The Great Depression and later economic setbacks cut into the number of businesses and residents, and in recent decades natural gas production has become an important industry.

The city had 3,384 residents in 2020. Route 84 leads 10 miles northeast to Fairfield, the county seat, and 13 miles northwest to Mexia; State Highway 179 runs 9 miles east to Dew. A small airport on the edge of town is used mostly for recreation.

What makes a Teague company sellable

For a small-town company, buyers focus on three questions: are the earnings real, will the customers stay, and can the business run without the owner. Clean books that reconcile with tax returns answer the first. A spread of customers answers the second. A manager or foreman who already runs daily work answers the third.

If a good share of your revenue comes from work in the gas fields, a buyer will ask how it held up in slower years. We lay out that history plainly so the buyer does not have to guess, because a guessing buyer lowers the offer. A business valuation can put a documented number on the company before you decide anything.

Owners in small towns also tend to mix personal and company spending. Buyers expect that, and a proper recast adds those items back so the true earning power shows. Leaving them buried makes the business look less profitable than it is.

Ten steps, run from the seller's side

Since 2008 the firm has closed more than 250 transactions, always on the seller's side. Our process has ten steps, from the first discovery meeting to money in your account, and we carry the marketing, buyer screening and negotiation while you keep the company on course. Owners across Central Texas work with us the same way: face to face, on their premises or somewhere private.

Questions owners in Teague ask

Will buyers look at a company in a town the size of Teague?

If the company is profitable and earns $3 million or more in revenue with clean records, yes. Buyers from across Texas and beyond buy businesses for their cash flow. We present the company without naming it until each buyer has signed a confidentiality agreement.

My company serves natural gas producers. Does that hurt the price?

Not by itself. Buyers want to see how revenue behaved through slow and busy years and whether you depend on one producer. Several years of results and a varied customer list make an energy-related company much easier to sell at a fair multiple.
