Copperas Cove business brokers and M&A advisors

MDR & Associates works only for sellers, and for a Copperas Cove owner we handle the valuation, confidential marketing and negotiation of a sale. Copperas Cove is the largest city in Coryell County, on Interstate 14 and U.S. 190 near Fort Hood, and our advisors travel to meet you.

A town the Army revived

Copperas Cove was founded in 1879 and named for a nearby spring whose water tasted of copperas. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway arrived in 1882, but the population peaked at about 600 in 1929 and fell to 356 by 1940. What revived it was Camp Hood, later Fort Hood, established nearby in 1942.

The employer list still shows it. The city's 2020 financial report put Fort Hood at 36,739 military and 14,445 civilian employees, far ahead of the school district, GC Services and H-E-B. Copperas Cove had 36,670 residents in 2020 and is part of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood metropolitan area, with Belton and Interstate 35 28 miles east and Gatesville 26 miles north. Most of the city lies in Coryell County, with portions in Lampasas and Bell counties.

When the customer base is military: selling a business in Copperas Cove

A company whose customers are soldiers and their families serves a population that changes often, and buyers know it. They will want to see that your marketing brings in a steady flow of new accounts, and that revenue has held up through changes at the post over the years.

Buyers also see the other side: a large post that has anchored the local economy since 1942. What they pay for is proof of that stability in your own numbers, meaning several years of records, repeat accounts and a team that runs the work without you. We gather that evidence early, so it is ready when the first serious buyer asks.

Meetings in Copperas Cove, a process run from Frisco

With our corporate office up in Frisco and nobody stationed in Coryell County, we come to you. The first meeting, including an opinion of value based on three years of financials, is free. We then prepare a confidential marketing package and HD video, screen every buyer for funding, and negotiate multiple letters of intent. The details are on our process page, and what buyers look for in the trades is on our home services page. For the wider area, see Central Texas.

Questions owners in Copperas Cove ask

How do buyers value a Copperas Cove business that depends on Fort Hood?

They look at how much revenue ties to the post, whether through contracts or military households, and how the company fared through past changes in troop levels. Heavy dependence on one source lowers the multiple; a broad, repeat customer base raises it. We present the history plainly so buyers price it on facts rather than guesses.

Can a veteran buy my Copperas Cove company with an SBA loan?

Yes. SBA-backed loans are one common way individual buyers, veterans included, fund an acquisition, sometimes with part of the price carried by the seller. We can help arrange SBA, conventional or seller-financed structures. Clean financial records matter here, because the lender will review them as closely as the buyer does.
